Half Moon Bay – A trip down memory lane

Weekend to Half Moon Bay.  As we stay hunkered down in our homes with travel and vacation is out of the question, we can relive and share memories of memorable trips.

Half Moon Bay is a coastal city in San Mateo County, California,  located approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of San Francisco.

This beautiful beach town, originally called Spanishtown was renamed in 1874 to Half Moon Bay because of the beautiful crescent-shaped harbor that lies just north of the town.

Some of the highlights of our trip:

Stay at the Oceano Hotel & Spa. We got an incredible deal on Groupon, with a room overlooking the beautiful Half Moon Bay. The room featured a cozy fireplace, elegant coastal furnishings, and fabulous room service. The hotel was less than a 5-minute walk to many restaurants and cafes, just a few steps to the charming Pillar Point Harbor and approximately a 10-minute drive to the State Beach.

A day trip to Half Moon Bay State Beach. Although windy, the beach was breathtakingly beautiful with emerald waters, small cliffs and vast expanses of white sand. Half Moon Bay State Beach is a single state park made up of four beaches: Francis Beach, Venice Beach, Dunes Beach, and Roosevelt Beach. It’s a favorite spot for sunbathing, picnics, surfing, fishing, and camping.

An evening walk to the historic Pillar Point Harbor with docks of colorful fishing boats and charming waterfront eateries. It is used by both pleasure craft and small commercial fishing boats.
The Mavericks big wave surfing location is about a half-mile outside Pillar Point Harbor.
