“I studied Languages Applied to Business, then Translation. My working and coaching languages are English, Chinese, French, and German. I briefly worked in PR, but then pivoted to recruitment, training & consulting, and now coaching. Except for a quick detour starting a tourism company catering to foreigners in China right before COVID hit, I have mostly been in the HR space. And since 2020, I have coached hundreds of accompanying partners to expats in China, helping them find their place, purpose, and passion there.
1. Where are you originally from and where you do you currently live?
Originally from Germany, have lived, studied, and worked in the U.S., France, and China. Currently repatriated in Germany, but traveling a lot between China and Germany.
2. What has been one rewarding thing about living abroad?
The biggest freedom living abroad affords me is complete freedom to be who I am. No being put in boxes, no preconceived notions about who I should be.
3. What is one fun or random fact about you that people don’t know?
At 40, I took up bouldering as a new hobby.
4. What is one tip you would like to share with new expats
Don’t try to go it alone. Get support – whether that’s through reaching out to other expats in your location, joining a strong online community of globally-minded individuals such as the Expat Woman membership, or working with a coach.
5. Your personal mantra or quote
When we focus on collaboration rather than competition, we all rise together.
6. What do you like about being a member of The Expat Woman?
Being surrounded by women who “get” what it means to be an expat or repat is priceless. I love the emotional support, camaraderie and how many opportunities for collaborations have grown out of my decision to join.
